In Pursuit of Perfection!

Be the first choice of our customers by delivering a product that is of uncompromising quality.

Penn-Mar Castings, Inc. is committed to quality leadership and the continual improvement of our products and processes to achieve sustained, profitable growth by providing products which consistently satisfy or exceed the needs and expectations of our customers.

Penn-Mar Castings, Inc. supplies castings to ISO 9000 customers and has been approved on numerous quality audits, meeting or exceeding customer requirements.

Quality does not happen by chance!
Quality assurance checks throughout the production process assure customers that every casting will meet their specifications. As your order progresses through our shop, each department has detailed instructions to ensure that your parts are made to the proper specifications. Everything is tested, from the grain size of the sand to the chemistry and physical properties of the iron and the dimensional accuracy of the finished casting. Statistical process control (SPC) is used daily for data analysis and solving potential problems before they occur.

Our castings are made with quality raw materials processed utilizing sound foundry practices. Incoming raw materials are ordered to exact specifications. Raw materials are visually inspected and analyzed in-house and by outside laboratories.

In-house sand and metallurgical controls form the backbone of the quality program at Penn-Mar Castings, Inc. Sand testing is done daily in our in-house sand lab. Sand samples are also periodically sent to outside laboratories for analysis.

Metallurgical control begins with selecting only the finest quality scrap and pig iron. Each heat of gray and ductile iron poured at Penn-Mar Castings, Inc. is analyzed thermally before and after tapping out. Thermal tests taken include temperature, carbon equivalent, percent carbon and percent silicon. We utilize an in-house spectrometer to analyze our iron and raw materials. The spectrometer is calibrated on a regular basis using certified standards.

Penn-Mar Castings, Inc. does 100% brinell testing. We utilize several brinell testers on site. These are calibrated on a regular basis. All brinell readings are documented. Our ductile and gray iron heats are analyzed microscopically in-house. Many metallographic samples are also sent to outside laboratories for analysis. We use the latest in ultrasound inspection as well as 100% visual final inspection in order to ensure that we produce the highest quality castings.

Penn-Mar Castings, Inc. has the capacity to lay out castings on site. This is done on a regular basis in order to assure that castings are to the blueprint dimensions. Layouts are performed on first time or revised castings before allowing them to go to full production.

Penn-Mar Castings, Inc. is on a Six Sigma and Lean journey with an on-staff Black Belt. We are focused on continuous improvement, always searching out new and proven techniques to enhance our capabilities.

To insure only the finest products, Penn-Mar has developed one of the strictest quality control programs in place within the foundry industry. Penn-Mar technicians incorporate a variety of testing methods to monitor quality during the casting process.

Statistical Process Control, or SPC, is paramount in Penn-Mar's quality control program. Using computer technology, Penn-Mar carefully monitors product quality and consistency to insure a controlled manufacturing process at all times.

Quality checks are made on every run to insure hardness, metallurgy and dimensional conformity are within acceptable ranges. Penn-Mar custom blends the metallurgy for each casting, to guarantee consistent physical properties for our customers.

Penn-Mar engineers lay out every sample casting after it is produced, carefully checking that each falls within dimensional conformance.
